‘Go alone—you're overreacting!’ my partner yelled as I pleaded for him to stay during my labor.
The Start of Labor
Luna Reed was thirty - nine weeks pregnant with her first child. Shortly after sunrise, she felt the first twinges of contractions. Her body tensed, and she knew labor had begun.
Ethan Reed, her husband, quickly got the car ready. He helped Luna into the passenger seat, but his face was set with annoyance right from the start.
As they drove, Ethan grumbled under his breath. “This is really messing up my mom’s birthday celebration,” he mumbled. His eyes on the road. His mind clearly elsewhere.
Another contraction hit Luna hard. She gasped in pain and grabbed the door handle tightly. Ethan just shot her a quick, impatient look.
“Can’t this wait a few hours?” Ethan muttered. Checking his phone for messages about the birthday party. Luna couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
With each passing minute, the contractions came closer together. Luna was struggling to keep her composure, but Ethan seemed oblivious to her agony.
“I can’t believe this is happening now,” Ethan said, shaking his head. Luna looked at him, her eyes filled with pain and disbelief.
Finally, they reached the hospital. Ethan parked the car and got out slowly, still complaining about the disruption to his mother’s plans.
Luna was in so much pain she could barely walk. Ethan reluctantly took her arm and guided her into the hospital maternity ward.
Once inside, a nurse greeted them. Luna was relieved to see the professional care, but Ethan was still distracted by the party.
A nurse quickly assessed Luna and confirmed that she was in active labor. Ethan let out an exaggerated sigh, clearly not happy with the situation.
“My mom has been planning this dinner for weeks,” Ethan said. Looking at the nurse as if she should understand his problem.
The Hospital Confrontation
When Luna, Ethan, and the nurse were in the hospital, the nurse confirmed Luna was in active labor. Ethan let out an exaggerated sigh, clearly annoyed.
“My mom has been planning this dinner for weeks,” Ethan muttered. His eyes on his phone. Showing his disinterest in the current situation.
Another sharp contraction hit Luna, and she instinctively grabbed Ethan’s hand. But Ethan was unmoved.
“Luna, you’re overreacting. Women give birth every day,” Ethan said coldly, ignoring Luna’s pain.
The nurse stared at Ethan in disbelief and said firmly, “Sir, your wife is progressing quickly. She needs support.”
But Ethan was only concerned about his mother’s birthday. “My mother only turns sixty once,” he insisted.
Luna could hardly process Ethan’s words as the pain from the contractions intensified. She was in shock.
Ethan picked up his car keys, ready to leave. Luna’s eyes widened in panic. “No,” she begged. “Please stay.”
Ethan looked at her with annoyance, as if Luna was being a burden. “Go have the baby. I’ll meet him later.”
Without a second look back, Ethan walked out of the delivery room. Luna was left alone, in pain and heart - broken.
The nurse gently squeezed Luna’s shoulder, offering a small bit of comfort in this difficult moment.
Then, the nurse immediately contacted Luna’s emergency contact, hoping to get her some support.
Family Support
After the nurse contacted the emergency - contact, Henry and Ava wasted no time. They hopped into the car and sped towards the hospital, their hearts filled with worry for Luna.
“I can't believe Ethan just left her like that,” Ava fumed as Henry drove recklessly through the traffic. Henry simply gritted his teeth and focused on the road.
Upon reaching the hospital, they rushed to the maternity ward. Their footsteps echoed in the empty corridors as they searched for Luna's room.
When they finally found her, Henry wrapped his arms around Luna tightly. "We're here, sweetheart. You're not alone," he said softly.
Ava pulled up a chair beside Luna's bed and took her hand. "Don't worry, Luna. We'll see this through with you," she reassured her.
Another contraction hit Luna, and she squeezed Ava's hand hard. Ava winced a bit but didn't pull away, offering her silent support.
Henry paced back and forth near the bed, his eyes fixed on Luna. "Just breathe, honey. You're doing great," he encouraged her.
Luna looked up at them with tear - filled eyes. "Thank you for coming. I don't know what I'd do without you," she managed to say between the pain.
Ava stroked Luna's hair gently. "We're family, Luna. We stick together, especially in tough times like this," she said, her voice full of warmth.
For the next few hours, Henry and Ava took turns comforting Luna. When the pain was at its peak, Ava held her hand and whispered words of comfort.
Henry stood by, ready to do anything to ease Luna's suffering. He fetched water and adjusted the pillows, making sure she was as comfortable as possible.
As the labor progressed, Luna leaned more and more on their support. Their presence gave her the strength to keep going through the excruciating pain.
The Birth of Leo
After hours of intense labor, the moment finally arrived. At 7:42 that evening, Leo was born, a tiny bundle entering the world with a soft cry.
Luna's heart skipped a beat as the nurses placed Leo in her arms. The sight of her newborn son filled her with a love she'd never known.
She looked down at Leo's wrinkled face, his eyes still closed. Every second of the excruciating pain suddenly seemed worth it.
Luna's father and sister were beaming with joy, watching as she held her son for the first time. Their presence was a warm comfort.
Tears streamed down Luna's face as she gently stroked Leo's head. She was filled with a sense of awe and wonder.
Leo's little fingers curled around her thumb, as if holding on tightly to his new world. Luna's heart melted at the touch.
She whispered soft words to Leo, promising to always love and protect him. Her voice was filled with tenderness.
Her father came closer, his eyes misty. He placed a hand on Luna's shoulder, sharing in the moment.
As Luna looked at her son, she couldn't help but think about Ethan. She felt a pang of sadness, but also relief.
Leo was here, a new beginning. Luna knew she had the strength to raise him on her own, with the support of her family.
She held Leo close, breathing in his sweet baby smell. This was a moment she would cherish forever.
The room was filled with a peaceful silence, broken only by Leo's soft coos. Luna was lost in the magic of motherhood.
