My future mother-in-law demanded my ATM card to pay for the wedding. When I refused, they locked the door and pushed me against the wall. “Hand over the card, or the wedding is off. Who wants a pregnant woman like you?” she sneered.

They thought I would break.

They thought I was a pregnant, people-pleasing woman who would cry and give in. But as I looked at Jake's sneering face and Carol's greedy, violent hands, the illusion of a happy future was gone. I didn't see a fiancé or a mother-in-law. I saw two weak, selfish cowards trying to rob a pregnant woman.

The fear disappeared, replaced by a huge wave of maternal anger. I didn't cry or beg. I took my hands off my stomach and looked Jake straight in the eye. I shifted my weight to my left foot.

The Knee Strike

I shifted my weight to my left foot and then drove my right knee up with all my strength and anger. Jake didn't see it coming. The impact hit him right between the legs. He let out a strangled gasp, his eyes wide in shock. Then he collapsed to the floor, clutching himself and wheezing.

“AAAGH! ” Carol screamed.

“You psycho! ” “No,” I said coldly.

“I'm the pregnant woman you just attacked. ” The room went quiet. I took the chance. Before Carol could react, I lunged towards the front door. Jake was curled up on the floor under the deadbolt.

I stepped over him. well, mostly over him. His howl followed me as I unlocked the door. Click. The deadbolt slid open, and fresh air filled my lungs. But before I could leave, Carol grabbed my arm hard.

Pain shot through my shoulder. That was her last mistake.

Calling for Help

I spun around and pulled my phone from my purse.

“What are you doing? ” she demanded. I pressed three numbers. Her face turned white instantly.

“Hello, emergency services?

My future mother-in-law just pushed me into a wall while I'm four months pregnant. My fiancé locked the front door and wouldn't let me leave. ” The silence in the house was deafening. Jake slowly looked up from the floor, his face pale. “What are you doing? ” he whispered. “Ending this,” I said, staring at him.

Within eight minutes, police cars arrived.

The response was fast because the dispatcher heard two important things: a pregnant woman and false imprisonment. The officers came into the house right away, with their body cameras recording. They asked questions and took statements. Carol tried to act innocent, with tears and all.

The Reversal

But the evidence was clear. I had been a victim of their greed and violence. The police took them away, and I was finally free from the nightmare. I realized that I didn't need a wedding or a relationship built on lies and abuse. I was going to focus on my baby and my business. This experience was a wake-up call, and I was ready to start a new, better life.
