I showed up at my husband's workplace with a fancy gift basket and tickets to a luxury cruise. Instead, I walked into his engagement party with the female COO.

It was our anniversary, and I was filled with excitement as I stepped into my husband's office building. In my hands, I carried a huge gift basket overflowing with gourmet treats-the kind he loved, the ones that always made his eyes light up.

Along with it were two tickets to a Caribbean cruise, a dream vacation we had talked about for so long. I imagined the look on his face when he saw me, the surprise and joy that would spread across his features.

But as I entered the office space, the scene that greeted me was something I could never have prepared for. There was a big, elaborate party in full swing. Balloons were floating everywhere, and people were laughing and chatting.

And in the middle of it all, my husband was down on one knee. My heart skipped a beat when I realized he was proposing to the company's COO, Sarah. She was standing there, looking sleek and confident, with a smug smile on her face.

As he slid a huge diamond ring on her finger, the room erupted in cheers.

For a few seconds, I was completely frozen in shock. I just stood there, my feet rooted to the ground, my mind struggling to comprehend what I was seeing. Then, my husband looked up and his eyes met mine.

His face instantly went pale as a ghost, his features contorted in a mix of fear and guilt.

Sarah followed his gaze and turned to look at me. She lifted her chin, as if daring me to say something. Her hand rested possessively on my husband's shoulder, as if to claim him as her own.

Someone in the crowd whispered, "Who's that?"

My husband quickly got up and started walking towards me. "Honey," he said in a rushed voice, "this isn't what it seems."

I looked at the ring on Sarah's finger, the diamond glinting mockingly in the light. "It looks like an engagement to me," I said coldly, my voice steady despite the turmoil inside me.

Sarah lifted her chin even higher. "Your husband told me your marriage was over," she said, her tone full of arrogance.

There was a sudden silence in the room. Everyone was watching us, waiting to see what would happen next.

My husband grabbed my arm, his grip tight and forceful. "Let's talk outside," he hissed through gritted teeth.

I pulled my arm away, my eyes blazing with anger. "You chose to do this here," I said firmly. "You can face the consequences here too."

He scowled at me. "Don't make a scene. You don't understand how business works."

For years, he had always introduced me as his quiet wife who loved painting. He never bothered to tell anyone that after my grandfather's death, I had secretly bought the majority shares of the company through a private investment firm.

He also had no idea that the mysterious investor named Starlight Capital was actually me. And most importantly, he had never bothered to read the fine-print of the share agreements.

I put the gift basket on a nearby table, my hands shaking slightly. "Enjoy your party," I said, my voice laced with sarcasm.

Sarah gave me a smug look. "You need to move on, sweetie," she said, her words dripping with condescension.

I walked out of the office before they could see the tears welling up in my eyes. In the elevator, I took a deep breath and called the cruise company. I canceled our trip, the words coming out in a choked voice.

Once I was in my car, I called my bank and froze all our joint accounts. I was done being the naive wife, the one who was taken for granted.

Then I called my lawyer, Mark.

"Activate the special clause," I said, my voice cold and determined.

Mark was silent for a moment. "The controlling share takeover?" he asked.

"Yes," I replied. "It takes 75% of the company out of the current management's hands. It's worth around $800 million right now."
