In the living room, Linda sat looking at a professional photo of the newlyweds smiling in front of the altar. It felt like that was a different, happier life that was gone. At four in the morning, the door to the guest room creaked open. Sarah came out. Her bridal veil was gone, her makeup was smeared on her cheeks, and her dress still clung to her.

She walked straight to Linda. Before Linda could say a word, Sarah knelt at her feet. Please, you have to forgive me, Sarah said, her voice small and broken. Linda felt a rush of worry.

Forgive you for what, my dear? Please, stand up and come sit with me, she said, reaching down to help her.

Sarah shook her head. Forgive me because I knew Tom had been in love with another woman.

But I didn't know he married me to punish me for her leaving, she admitted, her voice trembling. Linda helped her up and took her to the kitchen. She poured her a glass of water with shaking hands. Tell me everything, don't leave anything out, she urged. Sarah took a deep breath and started to speak.

When we went into our bedroom, he was acting really strange.

At first, he was nice, asking if I wanted something to drink, and he locked the door. But then his whole attitude changed. He looked at me with so much hatred that I felt like a stranger, an enemy. He said that that night I was going to understand what it meant to have my life destroyed.

He talked a lot about Emily, saying that I had ruined his life, that because of me she lost her job, her family, and him. I had no idea what he was talking about.

When I tried to explain, he punched the wall next to my head, and that's when I screamed, she finished. Linda felt a mix of relief that Sarah wasn't physically hurt and horror at what had happened. It was enough to end any marriage. She left Sarah in the kitchen and went to Tom's room.

She found him sitting on the floor, holding an old, worn-out leather notebook. Now you're going to talk to me, and you're not going to lie anymore, Linda said, her voice firm. Tom opened the notebook, his fingers shaking on the yellowed pages.

Unraveling the Truth

Tom took a deep breath and started to tell his story. Emily was the love of my life. We were together for a long time. Then Sarah came into the picture. I don't know how, but she managed to get Emily fired from her job.

Emily's family turned against her because of the scandal. She was so broken that she left me. I was devastated. I couldn't believe what had happened. I planned this wedding as a way to make Sarah pay.

I thought I could make her feel the same pain I felt, he said, his voice filled with regret. Linda listened in shock. She couldn't believe her son had done something so cruel. Tom, you can't just take the law into your own hands. You should have talked to me, to someone. This is not the way to solve things, she said, her voice stern.

Tom hung his head. I know, Mom. I was so angry. I didn't think straight. I just wanted revenge, he said. Linda thought about Sarah, sitting alone in the kitchen, scared and heartbroken.

She knew she had to do something to fix this mess.

She went back to the kitchen and sat down with Sarah. Sarah, I'm so sorry for what Tom has done. He made a big mistake. But I want you to know that I'm on your side. We'll figure this out together, she said.

Sarah looked at her with tear-filled eyes. I don't know if I can ever trust him again. This was a nightmare, she said. Linda nodded. I understand. You don't have to make any decisions right now.

Just take your time and think about what you want, she said.

A Family in Crisis

Over the next few days, the house was filled with tension. Tom was full of guilt. He tried to talk to Sarah, but she wouldn't even look at him. Sarah was still scared and hurt. She spent most of her time in the guest room, away from Tom.

Linda was caught in the middle. She loved her son, but she also felt sorry for Sarah. She tried to bring them together, but it was very hard. One day, Linda decided to call Emily. She wanted to hear the whole story from her.

Emily agreed to come to the house. When Emily arrived, she looked pale and tired. She sat down in the living room and started to talk. I did lose my job because of Sarah. She spread some false rumors about me at work.

But I also made a mistake. I let it get to me too much. I shouldn't have left Tom. I was just too weak, she said. Sarah listened, her face red with shame. I'm so sorry, Emily. I was jealous of your relationship with Tom.

I didn't think about the consequences, she said. Tom looked at Emily, his eyes filled with sadness. Emily, I've missed you. But I also know I've hurt Sarah. I don't know what to do, he said.

A Path to Healing

Linda looked at the three of them and knew that they all needed to forgive and move on. We're a family. We've all made mistakes. But we can't let this destroy us. Sarah, can you find it in your heart to forgive Tom? Tom, you need to make it up to Sarah. And Emily, you need to let go of the past, she said.

It wasn't easy, but slowly, they started to talk. Tom apologized to Sarah, and Sarah started to open up. Emily also forgave Sarah for what she had done. In the end, the family decided to give Tom and Sarah's marriage another chance.

It would take time and a lot of work, but they were willing to try. The wedding night that had started as a nightmare had turned into an opportunity for the family to grow and heal. And Linda knew that, no matter what, they would always be there for each other.
