A Shocking Confrontation

In the middle of the bustling restaurant, Damian Beckett blurted out, "Those children have my eyes.
Amelia, tell me right now who their father is." The chatter around our table stopped at once, like someone turned the volume down in the whole place.
Damian stood a few feet away, still as a statue.
Alyssa Perez was on his arm, and an engagement ring sparkled on her finger.
My 5 - year - old triplets all looked up at him at the same time.
Elijah frowned.
Kayden held his water glass tight.
Atlas, always outspoken, pointed right at Damian.
"He makes the same face I do when he gets angry," Atlas said.
I felt the past choke me, but I hid it.
I took out my phone, started recording silently, and put it on my lap.
I didn't come to The Copper Bistro to meet my ex.
I was here because the chef wanted my catering company, Three Spoons, to design kids' menus.
Five years ago, I left the Beckett family with a suitcase, a high - risk pregnancy, and no hope of rescue.
Now, I supported local places.
I wasn't rich, but the money was mine.
Damian walked slowly towards us.
He still looked like a magazine cover star, in a perfect suit with a confident voice.
But when he looked at the kids, he seemed to forget how to breathe.
"How old are you?" he asked, his voice a bit shaky.
"Five years old," Elijah answered.
The words hit Damian hard.
Alyssa went pale.
She knew the dates well, as our divorce was final when I was secretly pregnant.
"Are they triplets?" Damian murmured, looking at their faces.
"There are three of us, but we are not an exhibition," Atlas shot back.
The restaurant manager came over, ready to step in.
I started packing up the kids' jackets and drawings.
"We need to talk," Damian ordered in his bossy tone.
"Not in front of them," I replied coldly.
"If they are my children, I have a legal right to know," Damian insisted.
Elijah dropped his fork.
Kayden asked if we did something wrong.
I stood up and looked Damian in the eye.
"They are children, Damian, not property you can claim between courses," I said.

Confrontation and Aftermath

Alyssa forced a smile.
"Perhaps Amelia has an explanation, especially since she vanished five years ago without a word," she said.
I gave her a look of pure disgust.
"I called eleven times from the hospital, sent emails, an ultrasound, and a letter.
But someone made sure he never got them," I said.
Damian slowly turned to Alyssa.
She quickly looked away.
"My mother said you lost the pregnancy," Damian said softly.
"Your mother came to my hospital bed with a lawyer when I was still bleeding," I replied.
The silence spread.
People at nearby tables were watching.
Damian stepped forward to stop me leaving.
"You can't just run off and leave the city again," he said.
I laughed without humor.
"Do you think I need your permission?" I asked.
Atlas stood in front of me, his body shaking.
The guards came over, and Damian stepped aside.
As I drove home, my phone vibrated.
"Don't leave the city.
This isn't over," Damian's message read.
Alyssa's message came soon after.
"Children need stability, not a resentful woman's revenge," she wrote.
I ignored both messages.
In the mirror, I saw Elijah crying, Kayden hugging Atlas.
They were confused.
They didn't know Alyssa held my phone when Damian tried to reach me.
That night, the triplets slept in my bed.
At the table, I told them Damian might be their dad.
"Do we have to live with him?" Elijah asked.
"No.
You're not leaving home," I promised.
"Does he love us?" Kayden asked.
The question hurt.
"Love means respect, care, and staying.
If he wants to know you, he'll learn," I explained.
After they slept, I called my lawyer, Nora.
She had the file "In case the Becketts return" with all the evidence.
